So this is the confusing part.

It is not about preventing suffering.

It's about being more and more and more aware of suffering.

And more and more willing to be with suffering.

That itself taken as a intention and then laying down or sitting down and breathing and being aware and being aware of the suffering in the body and the mind will allow you to understand that the world is not out there The world is internal and how you act towards the internal world or how you act in the internal world is expressed by how you act in the external world.

Now in terms of understanding this or controlling this or regulating this you need to understand how subtle the brain is and how subtle the mind is and I think one of the ways that this is displayed is how we are convinced when we watch a movie or a TV show in the reality of that whereas that production is completely fabricated and is as inauthentic as anything can be and yet we are easy to identify with that and believe in that so that we keep watching and indulging in it.

so it takes a lot of humbleness and it takes a lot of openness to go deeper into the subtlety of the mind it takes a lot of detachment as well as willingness to be aware.

But not everyone is interested to go deeper into the mind and not everyone has to be but in terms of dealing with suffering we have to understand the motto given by the great zenmaster Thich Nhat Hanh which is.

No Mud No Lotus

And my master also likes to say no pain no gain.

So it's actually not about gaining anything but it's a willingness to be with what is actually there and by being with what is actually there you can take the seed of yourself and allow it to be in the mud of the suffering and that is what allows the lotus flower of happiness or peacefulness or healing to take place.

The reason that people are so aggressive is because they are aggressive to the suffering in themselves trying to get away from it. So just be with it. Breathe

instead of reading a tertiary source from mahayana guru who knows nothing about buddhism, you should read directly the primary sources like

If you sit still or if you lay down and turn your attention inward without any entertainments or other activities.

You will immediately be facing the mind.

So in facing the mind try to sustain that and look directly at the mind and be directly with your direct experience moment by moment.

This is the way of facing what really is inside of yourself it has nothing to do with rejecting thinking it has nothing to do with thinking and it has nothing to do with someone doing something.

It is just what it is at that moment and it is your responsibility as someone who considers themselves to be intelligent and to know about reality and to know about the mind to directly perceive the mind in a way that is not about ideas concepts beliefs stories or complicated thinking.

This is necessary because so much of reality and so much of your own body and certainly the brain does not reference or does not rely upon any kind of complicated thinking.

so if we can look directly at our direct experience internally we can learn more about ourselves and also about reality because modern neuroscience says that the reality we see outside is actually neurons firing inside of our own brains

So in that way when it comes to suffering usually if someone goes to sit down or lay down or just in the bathtub with the lights off and they focus to look at their own mind and to just be with their breathing and their mind they will find that there is a sense of uncomfortableness or there is a sense of unsatisfactoryness.

We can call this the suffering and the teaching here is to embrace that and to be willing to be with that rather than trying to get rid of it.

In this way you can understand the mind and the truth and reality more closely and also you can learn to transform that suffering with attention.

Because of course you don't want to suffer you want to be happy.
If you can't face what's there how can you take care of it to be the way you want it to be.

>We can call this the suffering and the teaching here is to embrace that and to be willing to be with that rather than trying to get rid of it.
no, the teaching is to view rupe, vedana, sanna, vinanna, as '' this is not mine, this not me, this is not my self" and to clean the citta of as much ignorance and craving for becoming and sensuality as much possible in order to go into reduce covetousness and hatred for sensory inputs, which is the stepping stone for the jhanas
